Under Win98, it was recommended that you set your minimum virtual memory
settings to equal your maximum virtual memory settings. to eliminate
potential stutters, etc.  I know that XP handles memory somewhat
differently, so is this recommended under XP, as well?  If so, exactly
where do you find those settings?  (Still getting comfortable with a new
interface....)

Also, would increasing RAM from 512 Megs to 768 Megs be beneficial in
running racing sims in an XP system?  If so, does it have any
detrimental effect on GPL?  (Under Win98, I remember that GPL had
problems running on systems with more than 512 megs of RAM.)

Thanks.

Under Win2K and WinXP, it's best to just let Windows handle the VM.

The only change I would consider is having a special partition at the front
of the drive for the VM file, but even that isn't much of an improvement
these days with today's fast processors and hard drives.

Finally, if you are hitting VM too much, you simply should buy more RAM.
It's an easy purchase these days.

I think the "over 512 problem" is just Win98 spesific and has nothing
to do with GPL. So there should be no problems in that department. But
I would assume that going over 512 has no great effects if any in GPL.
Altough its a memory hog its done when ppl had 16 to 128 memory.

No gpl doesn't like over 512mb either.  I think it was Papyrus' way of
NOT having to support Win2k.  Which at the time was NOT a very good ***
OS.  You can get around this by increasing the size of the replay buffer(I
think!) in the core.ini to use up the extra RAM.  Somebody here should have
the details.
