GPL Graphics Driver Problem

by reape » Thu, 08 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Hi all,
I just installed
1. new Direct X 6.1
2. new 3DFx drivers (Voodoo I)
3. newest drivers for my ATI 3D Rage IIc.

Since finished my GPL has got a somewhat "outwashed" look, i.e. too bright.
I couldn't change it by software, all other applications (included other
3DFx games) run properly.
The only way to get a decent look within the game is to change the
resolution on 800x600. This lowers my framerate from about 36 to merely
20-22 fps, which I find unacceptable.
Has anybody an idea?

TIA,
Fritz

Fritz,

I had that problem with my Voodoo 1 and N2.  I was able to help it, although
not cure it altogether, by using the Diamond utilities to reset the monitor
gamma to about 1.20 for each of the three colors.  If you have a utility that
will let you set the gamma, you might give it a try.

Go in the settings for your graphic card (display properties, for the
Monster 3D). Lower the gamma correction. It should make the colors
darker.

Thanks a lot guys,
but the problem remains: if I change the gamma in the 3DFx utilities, all
applications will get darker. And the problem is only within GPL, therefore
it won't be solved this way.
Still  hopeful -
Fritz
