in 91 i bought my first bass-guitar, since we planned on starting a
band together and a bass player was needed :) It was a really cheap
korean thing $270 at the time, but it was fun. My mother dropped her
jaw to the floor when I asked her to drive me to the music shop to buy
a instrument (i was 16 then). The band we finally managed to put
together was real crap, and we basically played a lot of Metallica
songs. It was a nice time indeed. Then I moved to begin at the
University and i got in tough with a band where we explored the more
extreme directions of music, so I had to buy a 5 string since the old
4 string couldn't handle a fat B-string instead of the E :) A very
nice Ibanez, which i still use today. Around 96 i left the band and my
band aspirations are over. I have a mp3 of one of our "hit's" from
that period i can mail if you are interested. It's one of our first
songs we wrote, so it pretty basic, but still so experimental that it
lifted some eyebrows.
Two years ago a friend of mine bought a drum-kit, and i started to
explore that one. So now i'm playing the drums more than i play the
bass. I came to the conclusion that i'm not good at picking the tones
and keys, so i'm a lot more comfortable with doing only rhythms. Two
friends of mine and myself have a band where we only play well-known
songs at our own parties. It's mighty fun because we only do it for
fun and there is no aspirations and pressure :)
Opps, a little bit too long answer here :)
