NR2002 - will there be an OpenGL texture compression patch

Is it even possible?  Was it not included due to time restrictions or is it
a technical problem?

I want clear textures AND the substantially better frame rates like I have
in N4.

Yes, there will.

That's rather definitive!  Do you work for Papy?  Sorry if I don't recognise
the name and should.  It is terrific news, though.

Eric Bush has stated that he "believes" that a patch "may" be forthcoming to
allow the texture compression in OpenGL.

It was talked about here a few weeks ago that they hoped to have it in the first patch.

Without having any knowledge about what Papy will do, and whether
compression will be a part of this, I read that the OpenGL 'standard' has
been expanded a short while ago (or is about to be, I am not sure right
now), to include a few of the things DirectX has. The one item I remembered
was the LODBias, which is quite a powerful tool for the user to adjust a
game to his personal speed vs. image quality preferences.

So maybe, other more game-orientated features are also included, and then
Papy could do what they did for GPL (or rather, what one of the guys at Papy
did, spending a lot of his leisure time on this for us with his D3D
renderer) and release improved OpenGL renderers as these new extensions
become incorporated into the graphics card drivers.

hehe ... get a 128 MB GF3 Ti200 ... problem solved ;-)  GL setup found 80+
MB of texture memory on my card! Hmmph, and the naysayers told me no game
would need that much texture memory.

But uh oh...Papy is going to do an OpenGL compression patch (like the D3D
one) for NR2002, so you only need 32MB....

Jeff -

You must be in 32 bit true color mode.  Try it in 16 bit.  I bet you get
over 100 MB of texture memory!!

Yep, and yep :)
