I had a problem while racing at Atlanta last night that really annoyed
me.  The #1 car of Rick Mast went out of the race due to whatever.  The
car was parked in its pit stall for the remainder of the race.  Whenever
I came into the pits, in order to leave, I had to back up and go around
that car costing me a couple of seconds (I like to run low wheel lock
angles).

I would like to see the cars that are out of the race go "behind the
Wall" like in real racing instead of sitting on pit road.

Good point.  I'd like to see that also.  I've had cars that are listed as
"OUT" on the leader board come back out onto the track during yellows....
but the only place I've seen this happen is at Bristol.  Maybe if they
were behind the wall, this wouldn't happen either.

Another weird thing about cars that "go out" of the race.  Some of them
sit in the pits during green flag runs, but come screaming out and do a
lap when the yellow comes out!

Another approach to fixing this problem would help even if the car
pitting in front isn't "out of the race", when in the pit lane have the
program increase the wheel lock to the max.  As soon as the car passes
the end of the pit lane (or the assigned pit stall), the wheel lock
defaults to the player's original setting.

Until Papyrus fixes it, I use this strategy: after a yellow-flag pit stop,
get back in line on the track, and after you're sure everyone is out of the
pits, escape and reload the game.  The "dead" cars will be gone from the
pits.  Not a perfect solution, just a good workaround.

Not if you are running in a series where it is not permitted to save your race in the middle.

I've never noticed this problem before.  I do agree that these cars should not be left on pit
road if they are out of the race.
