Saitek R4 Force

Saitek R4 Force

The Saitek R4 Force is a great wheel. The pedals are marginal with poor
pots. Solution? I replaced the pedals with those from the Per4Mer which has
a cheezy wheel. I rewired for split axis using the Saitek wiring as the
brake pot had gone bad. The Per4Mer pedals are about the same quality as the
CH pedals with very sturdy construction. I've modified the core.ini file to
get the feel I like. I use full force gain, full return to center spring,
map Y axis to X axis and brake and gas on seperate axis in the wheel
properties box. Here are my core settings:

[ Joy ]
allow_force_feedback = 1                                 ; Use FF if device
has it
force_feedback_damping = 500.000000       ; force feedback damping
coefficient
force_feedback_latency = 0.055000               ; force feedback latency
(secs)
max_steering_torque = 235.000000                ; steering torque in N*in
giving max device force

Saitek R4 Force

Well, either one of us is nuts, or our systems are dramatically different (I have a PII-450 with a V2-12MB video card), or it just shows how personal setting preferences can be.  I have the same wheel and use 40 damping, 0 latency and 240 torque.  The torque is about the same, but the other settings are dramatically different.  I hate your settings and you would probably hate mine if you tried them.  At first I was annoyed with Papy that we had to fiddle with these .ini settings...but now I am glad they are there.  The "default" settings were worse than no FFB for me.

Just a message so that people know to take the time to play with the settings to find what works for them.  Thanks for sharing your settings in this spirit (and for a great GPL Web site, too!).

Marc.
