It's a big pain for me to try to type setup changes and drive at the
same time, even under yellow (I have to move my keyboard to a
hard-to-reach location when I race).  Has anyone used GameCommander or
anything similar with any success?

TIA,
Gerald

Used Game Commander with Nascar4, works pretty decent.

Gerald,

Yes, been using GameCommander for quite a while now, first with N3 and now
with N4.  I find it very effective and I've not detected any impact on N4's
performance when GC is running.

Gerald,
Ditto the above comments for me also.  GC works great in N3 & N4.  I
especially like that you can create loads of your own messages.  Give it a
go!

I tried the GameCommander.

It was just annoying enough to warrant taking back :)

Big Bummer - It doesn't split the voice communications off into the headset,
while leaving the game sounds on the main speakers.  It's either all on the
headset, or all on the speakers.  Voice comms AND game sounds.   That was a
poor design decision.

IMHO

Just use a headset with a mic and no speakers.
How do expect them top split the sounds that come out of one port on a sound
card?

Still, it's not good, and it's one of the reasons voice command software
hasn't taken off. I'm not disabling Altec 885 speakers to listen to a $20
headset. When my main speakers are enabled, the game sounds repeatedly (and
very annoyingly) get interpreted by GC as commands. Plus, I just didn't have
the same success others did in this thread. I found myself trying to be
ultra-quiet, as even coughing would get interpreted as a command, and about
20-30% of my commands were mis-interpreted by GC.

You had the mic volume up too high. I used the voice trainer and 99% of
commands are recognised.  I also used a button on my wheel to activate it so
chatting to a friend will not send false messages.

I did the same thing using the button but as I did find random noises did
set it off, however it seemed to pick up the proper command 90% of the time.
Everyone has different experiences.

I too have used the Game Commander with limited success. It appears that the
actual commands were not recognized most of the time. I tried requesting
commands both quietly and loudly with the same limited success. I made all
the necessary adjustments and still no luck. I have since disconnected it
from my system, it does to seem to be worth the trouble. If anybody has any
suggestions on how to fix the above stated problems I would love to hear
them. Good concept but hard to get working.

Make sure you have a decent "sound canceling" mic. The only that comes
with the Game Commander 2 works great for me. (Used with a push m-o
"talk" button)

I've had MS Game Voice for a bit over a year and had good luck with it in
over a dozen games...not even sure it's still sold or supported by MS...

I didn't have my mic volume too high, as I tried about a million different
settings trying to get it to work.

GC2 works fine with other games, haven't tried N4 yet.
You can get it in CompUSA for $20, cheaper than ordering
from the official website, even with discount codes!

99% does not cut it. My keyboard recognizes 100% of commands. I have GC2 and
I played around with all the options on two differnet soundcards, SB Live!
and Santa Cruz and too often I found GC2 recognizes the wrong commands, I
used the mic that came with the retal version of GC2. I felt rather silly
talking to my computer anyway. As it is, GC2 is collecting dust in a drawer.
