N4: Qualifying thoughts

Ever since N2 i like to run full championships against the AI, mostly
50%-100% racelenghts.
I really enjoy this, but what i miss is the ability to have a carlist
of say 48 cars, so that if you can't qualify within the first 43, you can't
be part of that particulair race.
For me personally that would ad a lot of realism, as i usually set the AI
strenght at a value which keeps me running somewhere between
25-43.

I don't recall ever reading someone else's thoughts on this, but
i think this wouldn't be so difficult to program as an option?

That has been on user's wish lists for years.  There are lots of others
who feel they way you do.
I don't have any clue about the complexity of programming such a feature,
but I do have a theory about WHY we won't see it.
Papyrus doesn't run the support side of their products.  That is handled
by Sierra.
I imagine they have a few folks that answer phones to help users when new
titles come out.
The more problems a game has, the more people they have to hire and the more
non-sales expenses they incur.
Just imagine your average newbie racer, buying a sim.  He rushes home,
slaps it
in, chooses championship and NEVER gets to race.  He and 10 bazillion other
casual users call Sierra and start ***ing about the faulty game they
released.
Sure we experienced folks would figure it out...but WE don't cost Sierra
money by
flooding their phone lines with questions on how to paint my car black or
why the AI
doesn't slow down like they do in Daytona USA???

I understand what you say, and i can imagine Sierra's thoughts
are the way you describe them. But they could've made it optional,
after all N4 came with a lot of optional features.

Maybe it's a challenge for those talented add-on programmers out there...

Here's what I'm thinking: you qualify 46th. The game then asks you if
you'd like to take a past champion's provisional to start the race 43rd.
Your choice.

Agreed.  The larger field sizes should be part of the Simulation Mode,
whereas the "guaranteed slot" should be part of Arcade Mode.  Papy
should be able to get the concept across to these casual users that
way.  I don't know HOW LONG I've waited for such an option to appear in
a racing sim.  Maybe one day.....

Absolutely, if they did include this feature then the default setting
would be to have it 'off' requiring the user to turn it 'on' before
coming into effect, negating all those irritating calls to their
helpline.
