TOCA, problem with DirectX v6

by Paul Sutcliff » Mon, 19 Oct 1998 04:00:00

HI,

Ever since installing DirectX v6 in order to play Colin McRae Rally, I
have been unable to play TOCA.

When I get to the Track selection screen, all the tracks are blacked
out, it lets me select one, but when I get to the start of the race the PC
completely locks up, every time.

I have gone through and installed all of the very latest drivers for my
graphic cards, sound card, cd rom, but none of this had made any difference.
I have also tried reinstalling. My others games run ok ie Quake 2.

It is definitely a problem with DirectX 6, because I uninstalled and
reloaded DirectX v5 and the game runs fine.

My PC spec is:

Pentium 200 MMX
VX motherboard 256k cache
32 EDO RAM
Diamond 3D 2000 2Mb Graphics
Orchid Righteous 3DFX Voodoo 4Mb
Win95
12speed Creative Infra 1800 CD ROM Drive.
Creative AWE64 Value Sound Card.

I don't think so.....

I've got a PII 266, w/64meg SDRAM and  a Viper V330 4meg 2d/3d video card
running DirectX6 and it works fine!

Have you tried re-installing ToCA after you loaded DX6 ?

TOCA, problem with DirectX v6

Hi,

I had/have the same problem. I reinstalled TOCA and added the patch and it
worked after that, tracks are still black though? Bit of a wierd one I
think. Im not sure if this is incedental or not but I started a practice
session after installing and patching which I thought would stand less
chance off crashing. So if that made the difference you know. Good Luck.

I thinks this is the trick: I had to reinstall TOCA after the implementation
of  DirectX6.
