loading GPL into XP

Hey, did anyone have a problem getting xp to recognize the original GPL
install disk?  I can get the blue window with the install button in it, but
when I push it the window disappears and nothing happens.  I have tried
browsing the CD but to no avail.
I backed up my entire HUGE GPL directory with all of the patches and
tracks and cars, etc. before I switched to my new computer.  I have played
GPL since 1998, and if it won't work with XP then the new computer is going
back to the store.
Thanks for any advice or help you might be able to give.

OK, sorry.  It turns out that I had a locked up program running in the
background and apparently the installer wouldn't run while that was going
on.  I am new to XP (obviously).
Now GPL is installed, but I only get a splash screen and then it dumps
me back to windows.  Tried the file on my back from my last system with all
of the updates installed and it does the same thing.
Thanks again, if you have any ideas.

That's a common problem and easily fixed. With NTFS formatted drives you
need to allow indexing of the gpl folder. To do this open windows explorer
and browse to the sierra folder. Right-click on the gpl folder and select
properties, then click the advanced button. You'll see a check box to
allow indexing.

You don't need to enable the indexing service, and no, I have no idea why
it needs it either ;-)
