N2 crashing after intro.

I have a big problem with N2. Every time I try to start it, after getting to
the Papyrus screen (after the intro) it crashes with an out of memory or
disk read error. The really strange thing is that it has been working fine
for months, and was working just a half hour before! I haven't changed
anything, the same thing happens whether running from DOS or Windows 95 and
I've reinstalled twice. Help, help, help!

Is your CD in the drive?  The game will "appear" to crash if the CD is
not in the drive....

If you've done the FULL install you won't need your CD unless you do
Multi-player racing.  Also if you have added any files that might give it a
config error.  Like if you have too many tracks in your tracks directory.
Try restarting your computer in MSDOS mode and running it from the C:>
prompt.
