I thought this might be of interest.

Too bad he didn't practice with GPL.  He might have grabbed pole instead of
P3 ;)

Coulthard turns to simulation - 13-May-1999

David Coulthard has turned to his computer play station in a bid to fulfilll
his dream of winning Monaco.
The Scot, who was sixth at the end of the first day's untimed practice,
believes hours on the simulated game will help him prepare for the toughest
race of the year as attempts to build on his second place in Imola.

'I wouldn't normally be a believer in switching on the play station but this
is one place where the flow and the graphics are very accurate for the way
the circuit goes,' he said.

'You get so little chance to hammer it straight away that it gives you a
good chance to have as much a vision as where you are going to brake, where
you are going to apex and what the line is through a lot of corners.

He is not the first driver to use computer simulations. Jacques Villeneuve
admitted he used his computer game when he put his Williams on pole at the
Belgian Grand Prix three years ago.

The Scot, who lives in Fontvieille, the new part of Monaco near the track,
is looking to build on his second place in Imola two weeks ago after failing
to score in the first two races in Australia and Brazil.

'I am 10 point behind the leaders and that's not much - it was more than
that last year,' he said.

'To win here would be brilliant. It has always been classed as a driver's
circuit. Nice thing to have on your CV. I feel prepared and confident.'

It's amazing that someone like Coulthard can speak so highly of a Play
Station racing game, yet so many here condemn sims as if THEY are the one's
who really know what it's like to race at Monaco.

What sim are we talking about? because lets face it, all playsatation
racing
games are not "sims"at all,and I have not seen any quote from David on his
official site?

Anyone know where the quote can be found?

As to the point, note that nothing is said about the realism of the driving,
just that he uses it for track familiarity.  Anyway, don't take this to mean
that I know how to race at Monaco.  Though my Integra would come in the top 10
(ie, it would finish :-)).

I had heard last year, that it was Formula 1 '97, which was the best "sim"
on the PSX at the time.

Hmmm....I think I now know why DC made the reference to the PSX.  I find it
difficult to believe this is just a coincidence.

Unbelieveable! I guess DC has been demoted to the role of sponsor mouthpiece
after being outclassed by Mika for the second consecutive season.  I guess
he'll be taking up smoking West cigarettes next!

Coult***ly mentions the Play Station in his comments. Nothing about
Eidos or even the game he was using. You said in your response to me that
Sony must of paid him, not Eidos.

I think I remember you accusing me of being paid by a certain large software
company for my comments here at r.a.s.

Is this something you do often?
