Don't know if you gents have seen this, but Autosport is reporting:

-----------------------------------
David Coulthard was excluded from the results after finishing second in
the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The decision - coming a day before his 29th birthday - was announced
nearly six hours after the end of the race.

Technical steward Jo Bauer declared his McLaren had an illegal front
wing and an hour later the Scot was thrown out of the standings by race
stewards.

McLaren have until just after 9pm local time to appeal the result.

-----------------------------------

The DQ was for an out-of-spec front wing. All competitors had their
knickers in a twist as they were held for an extra-long scrutineering
session. All but Coulthard were declared legal. An hour after all the
other cars had been cleared, Ron Dennis was given the bad news.

In other car news, I just heard that Daimler/Chrysler is planning a
buyout of a controlling interest in Mitsubishi, currently undervalued in
the ongoing Japanese recession.

Take note of the ng name, recreation:autos:simulators. Not
place:for:people:to:spoil:results. At least pick a different subject
next time.

Although I agree with the bit another fellow wrote about spoilers, I did
read about this.  McLaren's blaming the bumpy circuit, which they say caused
an endplate to loosen and rotate on its mounting axis.  It does seem like an
appeal would be worthwhile, given the poor track surface.

I have absolutely no problems with discussing F1 in this ng, btw.  But of
course, I'm just little cuddly me.

Yes, I had, but other people hadn't (we're not all gents, either!).
If you want to post stuff about Formula 1, try rec.autos.sport.f1
(observing the "spoiler conventions" below). I think it might be
reasonable to post one *short* message here, *if* you put [OT]
(off-topic) before the subject line.

In any case, if posting within 48 hours of an event:

1) Put [SPOILER] in the subject line.
2) Don't give the game away! Use a subject like "[SPOILER] Brazil GP
update" rather than "[SPOILER] Coulthard DQ'd!".

Quite a few people, for whatever reason, can't see the races live,
but would like to watch them "as live" without knowing the result
beforehand because of thoughtlessness on other people's part.

Take note of this: the race has been over for well past 24 hours. I
assumed anyone interested would have seen the results by this time.

Oh, David, for God's sake.....get off your high-horse!
You're complaining about a post on F1-related matters *HERE*??? Jesus
wept......get real!
Perhaps we should cease any reference to real races and personalities of the
1960s (when discussing GPL matters) also?

Come off it! F1 has often been reported here. Yes put "Spoiler" in the
subject matter, but I think there are plenty of F1 enthusiasts who
frequent R.A.S.

As for rec.autos.sport.f1, I gave up on it due to the huge number of
morons with their "Hakkinen is better than Schuey-no he's not Schuey's
better than Hakkinen" bull shit.

Regards, Glenn

if these people want to archive this, they have to avoid all other media
like newspaper, radio, television ... friends, neighbours ... I've never
seen a newspaper print "SPOILER" on ther front page (although this would
make up a nice name for a new newspaper :-) ...

I understand that there are people who can't watch races live - they
should mainly take care of their news-free-zone themselves i.e. avoid
contact to news at all costs. and let's face it: reading newsgroups is
pretty careless, isn't it? I know what I am talking about: going out for
dinner while my VCR records the race and then accidently hearing 2
waiters talk about the result just before I wanted to go ... damn
spoilers ...

just my 2 cents ...

Well, then I guess the choice is this:

(a) We can post results, with clear giveaways about those results in the
headers.  Be damned to those who had been hoping to avoid knowing results
before viewing the race.  "I don't owe ennyone ennything."

--or--

(2) simply not report any real reports about any form of racing  (surely not
likely . . . )

--or--

(III) give a nod towards helping our FRIENDS in this COMMUNITY (making an
assumption here, but I think it's correct) who do wish to avoid spoiling
their viewing of the race.  It takes such little effort to do that.

Sure, those who want to avoid reportage before watching the race will have
to do some woirk themselves.  But why not make an effort towards helping
them out?  It's such a little thing.

my 1 cent,

DK

Hmm, well, but you have to admit that you didn't need to put it in the
header...?

Yes I know, in a perfect world and all that, but still

I do: I have never posted any race-result or comments from which one
could derive results, incidents or the like, because I did experience it
on my own several times. and in the ones I've endured I tried my very
best to avoid being informed ...

the point is: the post that we are arguing about has been posted about 2
days after the event and I find the "NO SPOILERS"-postings ... well ...
mistimed ... you will not be able to efficiently avoid spoilers from
this NG unless you don't read it in the spoiling-critical-time ;-)

You have to realise that not every part of the world will necessarily
follow a particular series in the way that you describe.

Here in the UK, it is VERY possible to completely avoid any reference to
CART or NASCAR races.  Normally, you have to physically look for the
result if you miss the race, there is no coverage in newspapers/regular TV
news.

Cheers,

Steve.

<gets off high horse>

No. I like F1. I'm complaining (mildly) about a small case of
thoughlessness. Not saying I'd never make the same mistake.

I think that's probably more than 48 hours ago... :-)

Anyway, those guidelines I posted were, I freely admit, a bit pompous,
but it was either that or being very terse. It's not *that* important,
in any case - it's only a sport! (sort of).
