Did everybody see the new review on www.simracingworld.com for the
edimensional 3d glasses?  I'm thinking about gettin me a pair.  They
sure sound interesting.  If it adds real depth, it should help going
into a turn to see the line and gauge passing distances better.
anybody else try them and care to share before i order a set?
otherwise, i'll come back and post when i get them.  the wife might
kill me, but gosh darnit, what's more important, the wife or the
league???

As an aside, I was contacted by edimensional about running an advertising
campaign on RSC in association with publishing a review of these glasses.
They offered a 10% referral fee for anyone who bought a set of glasses via a
link from our website. We decided not to reply to the e-mail since we only
publish reviews for items which the reviewer actually owns.

Cheers

I had a pair of Asus stereo glasses (similar in design to eDimensional).
They are a fun novelty at first but that soon wears as they become a pain on
the eyes over time and some games don't work with them too well, ie. GP3.

same here, they are bulky feeling and really not realistic.

Well Paul does own a pair...he wrote the review based on his own
experience and I emailed him before I went ahead with the purchase (I
just bought the wireless) and he told me they asked him to review it
as well, and sent him a pair to try for himself.  Are you sure that
edimensional wasn't offering you the chance to review the glasses
(=free pair for you?)

Thought I'd reply to this here :)
These glasses are very different to past models by ELSA etc, and in my
experience are much better. There is no longer any flicker.

As for a 10% commission on every one sold, that is correct, eDimensional
contacted me and offered this as an incentive to get a review posted
(reviews do actually take a long time to plan, write, check, re-check, post,
and check another couple of times!). However, our review was NOT ever
"biased" because of this incentive, as we operate on a "fair and balanced"
review policy -  Thought i'd just clear that up, and if you get yourselves a
pair i'm sure you'd agree with my review.

Thanks (my first post on R.A.S in a long time!)

I didn't have a problem with flickering on my Asus glasses either, just set
refresh rate to 120hz and it was fine. I found anything on screen that was
in 2D was hard to read though and hurt the eyes. For example, the***pit in
N2002 will look 3D but all the guages will look slightly doubled and hard to
read, also everything in 2D onscreen feels really close to your eyes while
the 3D looks fine. This has the effect of making you try to focus on two
planes at once. That hurts the eyes too. They are fun for a while but they
are not good for long hours of ***, IMO.

That sounds exactly like my experience with the ASUS glasses - maybe these
newer ones are better.  I can't really see them working well unless the
software is designed with them in mind.

I've had no problems reading 2D text in any game with these new glasses at
all. I think this is probably due to the fact the drivers for them (now
excellent drivers from Nvidia (although there are Wicked3D drivers as well)
seem to have this old problem sorted.

I'll see if I can find a demo of Nascar 2002 and see what it's like :)

Well, they all work on the same principal so just how much better can they
be? I think it's the drivers that make the difference, I used Elsa's generic
drivers on the Asus glasses for a while and found I got much better OSD
control with their drivers and coul fine tune it better, but that never
helped the 2D stuff much. As you say, the games must be desinged with the
glasses in mind, anything that is completely 3D (including text) works quite
well.

OK . So i've checked all the comparisons of brands and the eDimension's
seem to be winning everyone over.
And most people seem to like the idea of wireless (makes sense) too.
But how different are the wired and wireless.
What powers the wireless (AAs ,watch batt. ??).
Which are more comfortable?
I wear prescription glasses is why so many questions.
Thanks
Mike

I have the wired version and I wear glasses. They fit over the top of them
comfortably.
Wires might have a tendency to break or get caught in something. I
probably should have done wireless.

They use standard lithium watch batteries, which you can find in any
convenience store for a couple bucks.  As far as I know, the wired and
wireless work exactly the same, you just don't have the cord running
from the glasses to your PC.  I have enough cords already so i opted
for the wireless and they fit perfectly comfortably over my regular
eyeglasses.  They look about the same in the pictures, so I would
think the wired and wireless fit the same.
