GPL on K6-233, Stealth II--Refresh rates

by Alan Nas » Fri, 02 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I'm runing GPL on AMD K6-233 with Verite 2100 4meg video card.  Runs
smooth until other cars in view.  I have tried the 512x384 resolution,
but on my stealth I get two tiny screens of the same picture (a refresh
rate problem).  Can anyone tell me how to set the refresh rate at that
low resolution in Win95.  Any other performance enhancing tips for this
setup would be appreciated as well.  Thanks in advance.

GPL isn't out here yet, so I have a lot of time reading about it. From
what I read here, it seems as if reducing the resolution won't help a
lot, as long as you have a suitable graphics card (and you have). The
most frequent tip I read is to turn off "specular highlights" etc.,
sky texture and textures in the mirrors (although the latter has a
bigger effect on 3DFX cards than on Rendition ones, according to the
lovely and talented Ms Hine).
As for the refresh rate, you could try new drivers for the card.
