I think there may have been one on a Sony  underground CD.  Of course, it
was for PSX only.  Buy a PSX, if only for this game; you won't be sorry.

R:

You got to be kidding me. Buy a psx the game and a wheel and it's worth it?
Don't even tell me to race with a pad.

So GT is that much better than N2, MTM 2 and TOCA 1? That I'd have to buy a
whole new system just to race this game (on a low rez tv no doubt). What
makes GT that much better than the three I listed above? The 3 represent
different styles of racing to cover the spectrum of racing models well.

Interested in this. Thanks in advance.

Some people can't distinguish between a game and an experience.  Those
who can always prefer the experience.  N2 is an experience, anything on
a Playstation is just a game.

Gran Turismo is only a game. Check out the reviews and preview all around
the Internet. They are saying great thing about it, but nobody wanted to
compare it to racing simulators, and tell it's the "best racing game ever
made".

It can be compared to MTM2 and TOCA (since they are also games) but not to
Nascar2, Gp2, F1RS, Icr2 or GPLegends.  Those are racing simulators.

But what I like about GT is that hard-core AND arcade racers will enjoy it.
It is a melting pot of everything you find these days.

Haven't actually PLAYED Gran Turismo, though, have you?  If you had you might
feel differently.  I find it MORE of an "experience" than N2 because of sarting
with a limited budget, buying used real-world cars that I see on car lots every
day and fixing them up to win money and buy better and better cars.  Depends on
how you define "experience" I suppose, but I spend more time at the office
planning my next GT upgrade than I ever did thinking about N2.  Maybe it's not
for you, but your conclusion above is overbroad.

I'd have to disagree.  Gran Turismo is a great experience.

Okay, I won't.  But yes, its worth it.  I just got a note from a
friend who is pretty well respected as a *** PC simmer here on
the group and she just bought a used Playstation, a Mad Catz and Gran
Turismo and claims that the physics model is "the best I've seen,
except for GPL's.  It's way better than anything else.  It makes F1RS,
CPR, MTM2, ICR2, N2 seem crude by comparison".  She goes on, but that
right there says quite a bit, at least as far as the better sims like
F1RS and the Papy sims are concerned.

Well, its as deep as N2 in many ways, though the races are much
shorter, and in depth it destroys MTM2 and TOCA1.  The bottom line is,
if you want to drive a wide variety of cars with a fantastic physics
model and you want to be able to upgrade them setting by setting,
piece by piece, GT Is it.

My suggestion is that you go to Blockbuster, rent a Playstation and
Gran Turismo (although I'm not sure what you can do about analog
controllers - not sure you can rent those at all), and see for
yourself.  no one I know who has seen it, no matter how *** they
are with PC sims, has failed to be blown away by GT.

I'll happily compare it to any racing simulator you care to mention.
I'd agree with Alison in that its not quite as good as GPL, but its
easily more sophisticated than any other PC sim I've seen.

If your willing to take this time replying back to me I'll find somebody
with GT and try it out. My uncle sounds like a good place to start.

You better be right or I'm coming back with a whooping stick!!! :)

I'm not big on comparing new products to older releases, I prefer to judge them on
their own merits. My brother has a PSX system, and he invited me over to try out
Gran Turismo. We ran a few two-player races (limited car and track selection) and
I must say we had a side-splitting blast. Even watching the replays was fun. I'd
recommend racing the old 427 'Vettes against each other (though I'm mostly a Ford
fan). The loose suspension really made for a fender-banging, sliding, wild
experience. I wouldn't say it's the greatest or anything, but it sure is a lot of
fun. Even with the gamepads we were using. They seem to have the interface worked
out very well for gamepad play; which is more than I can say for any of the other
racing titles he's had.

You know.... another time I want to argue with you... ;)  I think GT is the
greatest thing to happen on the PSX since it's out for racing fans.

It's difficult to say (note that Im not a reviewer like you, just an
hard-core SimRacer), but for me GT took the best things from all the arcade
and racing simulators and made a great all-around package.  It's unique, and
telling it is 1) an arcade game or 2) a simulator   is simply to "simple"
(whoa that sentence was baaad).

Heck don't tell me that you can compare GT, where you can easily do some
fender-bagging, wall-hitting, sliding, wild maneuvering and still win a race
to most of the Papyrus simulators (here for me it's GPL, Nascar2, Icr2,
SODA). It's just not "that".

Thus you can't do the opposite, comparing that beauty who is GT to things
like Screamer Rally or Need4Speed, where there is virtually no setups, no
AI, no racing physics.
