Hi folks,

I wonder if it's possible to modify the tyre sqeal sound in GTR like
one could in F1 Challenge?

TIA for any pointers,

uwe

No real need - the tyres already make a scrubbing sound just like real
slicks.  It's quite audible.

Apparently not to all - remember that different sound cards/speakers do not
all give the same result.  To answer Uwe's question, yes; there are volume
multiplier and frequency variables for the scrubbing and skidding sounds in
the player.plr file at the end of the [sound options] section.   So you can
tweak them to your heart's desire.  Plus the sounds are plain wav files, so
you can substitute others as you like.

You can edit the following setting in your .plr file:
Vehicle Skidding VolMult="0.0004520703"

I cant remember the default value, but I'm using the one stated above. Think
it was 0.00012xxxxx

Please let me define my own version of "no real need"... ;-) F1C had
the scrubbing sound too, but for me it's much easier to know what the
tyres are doing when the sound has a higher, more audible frequency.

In F1C all one had to do was to replay "skid_road_dry.wav" or
something, so I wondered if this little hack would work in GTR, too?

cheers,

We went through this already.  For some, it's clearly audible.  For some, it
isn't.  Different systems pick up different sounds, I guess.
It's not audible for me, and I have what I'd consider to be decent
speakers(Altec Lansing).  Usually, my first indication that I've gotten a turn
wrong is when I'm sliding backwards toward some immovable object.

It has been my experience that if one enters a corner with sufficient speed
that virtually no object is immovable.   ;o)
