If you can only run with test mode, probably you have corrupted either the
drivers.txt or one of the paint/paint256 resfiles, or even possibly be
running out of system resources. Try uninstalling the program and all mods,
then manually deleting any files in your install directory and/or c:\Program
files\Hasbro Interactive\NASCAR Heat, and then reinstalling the game and
then the latest patch (you don't need to apply the old patches first).
If that still doesn't work and it still crashes, try posting the heat.log
file (located in your temp folder, typically c:\windows\temp under win9x)
generated by that run, and that may shed more light on the problem.
Under non-NT-based Windows, it is possible (although unlikely) to corrupt
any file that has been recently used when a program crashes... most of
memory is protected, but the file cache is unprotected for performance
reasons. It's also very easy to modify something without realizing it (from
personal experience, at least).
