I think the "general" consensus is the V3 is better than the V2.  But
by how much?  Alot depends on your processor, if you have an older
underpowered cpu, you might not see much improvement.  With a V3 you can
reach the higher resolutions that needed two V2's to attain.
But a better choice 'might' be the V5 5500.  It will certainly be more
powerful than the V3 and gives you the Full Screen Anti Aliasing feature
as well.
Remember the V3 and V5 are 2d/3d cards so you will be replacing your
primary card as well.

If you are happy racing at lower resolutions (800x600) then maybe not. But
for me being able to move up to 1024x768 (and now 1280x960/1024 with a
processor upgrade) made the cost of the V3 very worthwhile.

I have never used a Voodoo2, but I just got a Voodoo3 3000 and I play
GPL will all graphic options turned on at 1024x768 and get 36fps (as
high as the counter will go) even with a full grid. I have a Celeron
300A overclocked to 450Mhz, 128 megs RAM, blah blah....

Do you still get 36fps with all options on, detail full 'rich', from the back
of the grid at Silverstone?  Does the number drop at ALL when the green flag
drops?  If you still get it - how?!?  I didn't get that kind of performance
with my Cel500...

But why, oh, why would anyone want the detail slider to the max when the
details cannot be seen that far out from the***pit?

I don't think it is possible to get constant 36 fps with that
configuration, I have a Athlon/600 + V3 and still drop to 25 fps at
the start with 19 AI opponents - everything on, 1024x768, detail
slider to the max. Though, after some corners it returns to steady 36
fps...so nothing to worry about. :)

Doesn't it help with 'perception' for better driving?  I was thinking this was
one of the problems I had getting up to speed...
