Someone I had known from my
    It's a personal thing then...almost like a member of the family.  I'm
sure many fans have felt similar feelings when drivers they have idolized
have died.  Yours though seems to have been especially connected.

Same here, And if it was the same grainy (foreign language) video i saw
years ago then that particular tape was the most offensive piece of... I
mean, it glorified a horrible accident for some ghoul's mawkish desire to
see ***. Saw it once and never want to again.

I will throw my hat in the ring on this one. I saw the footage of that in
slow motion, and from the frame he was hit he caught more air than God
intended, and was pretty much no longer distinguishable as human.

For those with a strong stomach and a sick need to know...

I just downloaded it from the Italian site that Mike provided. I have a
very strong stomach but after watching that I feel nauseous. That is the
worst thing I have ever seen.

That documentary was the first place I saw it too, and it was one hell of a
way to start, especially if you weren't expecting it.

Le Mans 1955?

Strange how we can watch something like Kill Bill without
flinching, but once we know that there were two actual
deaths involved, a piece of footage like that will blow us
away (in a bad way)...

That was LeMans 1955.  Driver was Pierra Leveigh.

My dad used to VHS all the races he went to back then, so he could
watch to see what happened to various drivers besides #3.  I am sure
it probably eventually got taped over by something else, though.  I'm
going fishing with the old man this weekend, so I'll ask him.

I haven't seen the one from the truck race yet.

I think the debris is spread out a little there.  I remember the clump being
a lot smaller when it happened.

Yep.  I was watching it live (or it may have been taped, I don't recall
exactly), and Daryl was in the announcers booth.  Not a lot was being said.
