The only thing I saw of the Greg Moor accident were a couple of
stills. I never ever want to see a video of it.
BTW, how about Alex Zanardi's wreck in Germany -- nobody's mentioned
that yet, I don't think...

F1 has had a ton of accidents that make anything in nascar seem
downright tame. Even something like Berger's fiery crash at
Hockenheim, etc.
I feel kinda bad hyping that now.

Someone's car is disabled towards the end of the long front straight.
Marshalls rush across the track to aid to him. Tom Pryce comes over
the brow, unable to avoid the second marshall. Fire extinguisher hits
him in the head killing him instantly. Marshall is shredded to
pieces. Pryce's car continues at full chat all the way down the
straight and has a horrible collision with the fence at the end.
It might not sound bad, but it's something you never ever ever ever
want to see if you can help it.

I thought Michael was basically laying flat on the tarrmac with the
roof on him when everything was said and done.
There was a similar accident this year, I believe in ARCA or the Busch
series? Similar circumstances as I remember...the gate wasn't
securely hinged, someone hit it, and it severed the car in half.

That incident at Zandvoort is one of the most heartbreaking accidents I've
ever seen.
Seeing David Purley desperatly attempt to rescue him and imaging how
frustrated Purley must have been over the fire-marshalls vague attempt at
putting the fire out - will stick to my mind forever.

$10 says Petter Solberg wins the 2003 WRC
Not to mention the T1 Real Big Une this afternoon at Monza... I never
knew me Eagle could fly THAT high ('twas so spectacular I even saved the
replay, and we've all seen some T1 action). I think only one car may
have escaped this one, and only because it had already crashed beforehand.

Actually it was during practice in 1982. Agreed, probably the worst I've
ever seen.
See ya in the pits,
Dean
I have a terrible memory. In fact my memory's so bad I can't remember how
long it's been since I've forgotten anything.
In otherwords, a decent balance.

Bristol has a fence that opens to let cars, etc... across the track.
Michael came off of turn 4 (or is it 2?) and and caught the corner of the
wall dead-on where the fence attaches. The car literally went from 120mph
to absolute zero in less than a second. No bounce, no nothing. It
literally stopped dead in place like you hit pause on your VCR.
The car literally disentegrated. Completely. It was literally a pile of
rubble sitting on the track, everyone was holding their breath in disbelief
at what had just happened, including Darrel who happened to be in the
announcers booth at the time.
If I remember the scene correctly, all of a sudden the roof panel (or what
was left of it) suddenly flew up and Michael popped his head up out of the
pile of rubble. Similar to what he did in Daytona a few weeks ago, except
slighly less intentional :)
If I remember correctly, he barely got a scratch and ran the race that
weekend in a backup car.
You could not even tell what was left was once a race-car.
I believe it is on display, as it sat on the track, in the Bristol show-room
to this day.
If I'm not mistaken, the same thing happened to a driver in one of the
lesser-series a few years ago, but it wasn't quite as dramatic.

I've taken in road racing much more in the last few years, but I simply
cannot stand to watch a street course.
