PC Gamer review of F1GP2 - more info

Here's a few snippets For the benefit of those that can't get their
hands on PC Gamer magazine's review of F1GP2.
The screenshots look absolutely stunning (you'll have to take my word
for it!). Looks like Geoff has came up trumps again (as if he wouldn't),
can't wait until the end of February.

"Grand Prix 2 really is a 95% game, though like every other game that
Geoff Crammond had programmed it looks fantastic, plays brilliantly and
is more ***ive than you can possibly imagine. And that's just for
starters"
"Everything's fully textured and every single object on the screen looks
just like the real thing. They all zip along at unprecedented speed, all
the more remarkable when you consider the level of detail and the number
of polygons that are being displayed simultaneously"
"The lighting algorithms on the cars are perhaps the most pleasing
example of the assembly engine's power. As you turn in towards cars that
are passing you on the inside, the sunlight glints off them just as
you'd expect it to in real life"
"When you are playing in VGA, everything on-screen is crisp and
unpixellated (with the exception of a slightly bumpy edge on the
***pit)"
"For SVGA, we're tlking a P90 to get 25fps with lots of detail, you're
in for a treat.
"Although Grand Prix 2 is probably the fastest game available for the PC
at the moment, you'll still need to play around with the detail levels
if you own a lower spec PC"
"One of GP2's key strengths is that it recreates the Grand Prix circuits
of the world with forensic accuracy, yet remains fun to play if you
throw your car around as if playing an arcade game. GP2 is the perfect
combination of the two approaches to racing game design and it shows
that both are possible together"
"Each competitive weekend progresses like the real event, with Friday
and Saturday qualifying sessions and then a pre-race warm-up followed by
the race itself. Friday should be used to accumulate racing data. As
soon as you leave the pits, the data logger begins tracking your
performance."
"As you change down for a hairpin, the exhaust backfires with raucous
pleasure before you scream out on the other side, mounting the kerb and
hearing the tyres rumble over it. And, of course, the whine of the
engine accompanies you throughout, but never even thinks about becoming
boring"
"It's not often that you can't think of a single negative thing to say
about a game, but that seems genuinely to be the case here. Grand Prix 2
is as near to *** perfection as its possible to conceive at the
moment"
"Absolutely perfect"

Here's what the February issue of Computer Games Strategy Plus has to
say about F1GP2 in their "Driver, Start Your Engines" article...right
after the section on ICR2.

"...in early 1996 in the form of Spectrum HoloByte's sequel to World
Circuit, Grand Prix II.  It too will feature high-resolution graphics
and even more detail and texturing while retaining much of the outright
playability that the previous version had.  The alpha version of the
game shows the graphic improvement but feels like the same old handling
engine underneath.  It's certainly easier to drive than IndyCar, and the
cars feel downright tossable in the turns.  The game will feature 16
tracks, weather (the rain effect was particularly impressive in the
prequel), driving aids, multiple levels of opponent ability (with much
improved driver AI), and full pitching and rolling (cars tilt and spin
when they hit the curbing - a spectacular looking effect)."
