GP2: Bug or feature?

by Hen » Thu, 01 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Stupid question, really, because IMO it's definately a bug!
I downloaded a hotlap replay from the Net to improve my Hockenheim
lap time. I loaded the hotlap, the track and went on to watch it.
The first thing I noticed was that my graphics setting had changed!
All of a sudden I was getting CPU occupancy around 200%!

Then I loaded the performance data from the d/l:ded replay
checked it out and BANG! ALL OF MY GAME SETTINGS had changed to the
other guy's settings!!! Mph was now Kph, I was driving a Benetton
instead of Ferrari, even my name had changed! All the race settings
and quickrace setting had also been altered, along with graphics
settings. Only the control options remained the same, or this other
guy, whose replay it was, has the same control device I do.

Of course I can reload my saved game settings but this kind
of bug really has to be addressed!!! Annoying to say the least!

If it's a bug, it's a *** one. If it's a feature, it's not very smart.

The root of the problem is that the hotlaps are full saves of the game
state, meaning that all the other junks (graphics settings, names, etc.) ar=
e
also saved in the file. Which is kinda OK (except for the graphics settings=
),
because you'll have an exact replica of the original hotlap. However, after=

viewing a hotlap, GP2 should revert to my original settings (names, teams,
grafx, etc.) - which it sadly doesn't do.

Very annoying, to say the least. Anybody has a solution to it?

Well of course it will save names, game state etc..... its a
replay!!!.  I am sure it does alter your graphic settings though, but
I have noticed that CPU occupancy is very high when using an external
view.

BTW, it did exactly the same in GP1 as well.  To get around it is
easy..... load one of your own replays after it, and all it will
restore your settings.

IMO it does have its uses, as you can load a replay to quickly alter
the settings of the game.
i.e. my normal settings are 100% race distance at ACE level, but I
have a season running in multiplayer mode at 50% distance at rookie.
(We both use autobrakes as my oponent is a rookie and it ensures that
I cannot go screaming off into the sunset!! and actually makes a very
competative and close race!<g>).

Regards,

Ian.

How about doing a game SAVE of your own and then reloading that after
viewing the stuff from replays. This should restore the game to your own
settings.

Under Options/Special Options you can save/load the game state.

So, before replaying I save my game state, after replaying I try that setup
(if needed correcting graphics) and then I reload my game state/settings.
But with my more than loose joystick (almost digital :-) it seems imposible
to go faster than 1:44:100 at Hockenheim, no matter what setup.

Try saving your own hotlap with all the correct settings for your system, then after
viewing someone elses hotlap, re-load your own.

A bit of a hack, but at least it works.
