Stealth II/ICR2: Still Having Trouble

by Scott R. Lun » Mon, 29 Dec 1997 04:00:00

Well, I'm still having trouble with the Rendition version of ICR2 on
this V2100 board.  I can run it alright with the OLD Speedy3D file from
either Quake or ICR2 rend versions, but I have the messed-up mirrors.
Like other posts have mentioned, I put the NEW Speedy3D file back in
after I played it with the old one.  But then the game won't work.  It
locks my system up bad; I get garbled lines at the top of the screen and
I have to pull the plug to reboot.  A couple of the times I tried it
Win95 didn't want to start the first time after this and I had to boot
into Safe Mode, so I'm a little hesitant to try it again unless someone
has any ideas here!
I wish someone could make a patch for this mirror problem.

Be sure you start your computer in pure DOS. Then it should work.

Me too. It seems to me something is missing in the new spd3d.uc that
initializes the Stealth II. I dont understand why they didnt fix it yet,
because its a known problem. Do they really care about it?

Starting the game in dos mode then immediatly starting it agian with the new
speedy 3D file is the only way it will work without locking up.

d:
cd \icr2
call indyfast
REM after running indyfast the first time, you just quit the game right away
del d:\icr2\spd3d.uc
copy d:\icr2\backup\spd3d.uc2 d:\icr2\spd3d.uc
call indyfast
REM the 2nd time you start it (above) mirrors and***pit should appear ok.
REM this last bit restores the original uc file to the main indycar2
directory
del d:\icr2\spd3d.uc
copy d:\icr2\backup\spd3d.uc d:\icr2\spd3d.uc

This is the batch file I use to do it all automatically. My Icr2 is on D:.
You have to create a Icr2\backup directory and place the new spd3d.uc(name
it spd3d.uc2) and the old spd3d.uc(as is) in it.This should work providing
indyfast will run in the first place.

Thanks

 Steve,
I'm doing about the same as you with a bat file. But I'm finding that the
graphics
are not as good overall. Are you seeing anything like that? (like the
fences...track
lines and marks etc.)***pit...(dash and mirrors) are perfect though.
Personally
I prefer to see where I'm going more than where I've been!  :) (if I'd have
to choose)
Just wondering if anyone else has studied this enough to see this
difference or if anyone else is even seeing this other than me.
Also patched the original Indycar.exe with that new V2DOSFIX
patch......and it works fine but......the mirrors and dash are still a
problem. All that patch does is ...
makes the game so it is not looking for the V1000 card in order to start
the game.
So.......why would it change the dash and mirrors??? Ideas???? The patch
works fine with running N2 in dos....that's a plus if you have N2!

Suggestions and Ideas are always welcome!
Rich

I see no difference. The graphics look the same as before. There are only some
problems with the anti-aliasing. I turn it off.

I have noticed on the white lines on the inside towards the turns(Michigan),
little vertical lines flashing there.

Thanks
