GPL - car choice

Okay, so I'm making some (newbie) assumptions here and I'd like some
feedback, if I may.

I think it's fair to say that, with the right setup, the Lotus is the
quickest, but most car challenging (i.e. difficult) to drive?
The Ferrari as the best 'all-rounder' (quoting Alison Hine)?
The Eagle seems to me to be the most predictable of the quick three (with
the Ferrari and Lotus)?
The Cooper and Honda are slower cars but are more user-friendly and
therefore popular learner cars?
The Brabham I have not tried yet to any great extent and therefore can't
comment; they seem very rare VROC attendees though?
The BRM is an unpopular first choice but appears to be (again with the right
setup) somewhat of a dark horse?

Now I know that any of the GPL cars can be quick, so please don't shoot me
down for 'dissing' your campaigning choice.  But I would like to know if I'm
wide of the mark or not.

By the way, I seem to have been swayed by the Eagle since my regular racing
two months ago, but I'm considering giving the Ferrari some time.

Thoughts, please.

People often have favourite car and may go out in that 'cos they like it.
They may be in a "Chuckable" mood ( Ferrari , Cooper ) , they may be in a
"Fastest car for the track mood" ( Eagle loves Spa , Lotus just about
anywhere else ! )
Your assessment is pretty close to the mark , but everyone has their own
take on it. If I'm drunk , I need the Red Slug , or I'm going to be
examining the bushes ! You may find people out in a BRM ( Black Pig )
because they're too good for the rest of the field , or they want to improve
their Monsters of GPLRank , or they know they don't know the course and want
an excuse ! Only a *** would try the Brabham - way too much torque for
me ...

Lotus

I would say your fastest list needs adjusting...

The brabham probably deserves to go behind the Ferrari...

Lotus
Eagle
Ferrari
Brabham
Honda
Cooper
BRM

Of course this list changes a lot based on track...but the ferrari tends to
be faster than the brabham at a lot of tracks.

I like the Eagle the best but i find around some of the
tighter tracks it feels like driving a bus (Zanvoort) and
tracks like that. I'm not in love with the Ferrari but it sounds
so good i drive it anyways and the Brabham seems to me
to be down on horsepower alot, the Lotus is beautiful but
don't over rev it.

I was assigned the Brabham in John Simmons late, lamented IGPS3 series and
actually grew to rather like the "Aussie Toad". I ended up setting many of my
personal bests using the it.  Other than Spa and Kyalami (Eagle), Monza and
Silverstone (Lotus),  and the Ring (Ferrari),  my personal bests at the other
six original tracks are in Brabham.

As for the Ferrari being the best 'all-rounder', I think what this means is
that it doesn't have the reliability problems for races that the Eagle and
Lotus have.  Both the Eagle and Lotus are a bit quicker just about
everywhere than the Ferrari.  If you were going for a PB or running a novice
race, then the Eagle would be a better bet than the Ferrari, on pure speed.

I find the Eagle a very driveable car, but there's no doubt that the Cooper,
BRM, Honda and Ferrari are all a little more forgiving.

What does too much torque do for you?  Funny you should say that - 3 of my PB's
are with the Brabham: Kyalami, Silverstone, and Zandvoort.
Then I also have 2 each with Lotus and Eagle, and the rest(4) with Ferrari).
I'm not sure if that means I'm adaptable or not... :)

Some track setups are for ferrari, some lotus, some both.

Give the Eagle some time, it's very nearly as fast as the Lotus and way
easier to drive.  I still use the default setups with all cars (with reduced
fuel load of course) since I know nothing about cars or setups.

Under "downloads" is something called the x-files containing her setups

You may just need to practice your starts.  I know I do.  But the front
runners amongst both the AI and VROC crowd are pretty good at starts.
Clark and Hill still leave me behind at the start no matter what I do,
and even if I outqualified them significantly.  I don't think it's because
of the car I drive;  I think it's me.  Practice, practice, practice...

Well, I don't know what it does for you, or for Johnny, but for me,
it causes my gearbox to lead the way out of the corners an awful lot
more than I'd like....  ;-)

Well slap some leather on me and... Errr, I mean, torque GOOOOOD. :)
Okay, granted you have to lay low on the loud pedal (and/or get a set
with a long travel).

That aside I find I can throw the Brabham around better then the rest
of the carset...  Of course it sucks when your coming on to the back
straight with a Lotus on your butt, it's lacking a bit of top end, but
hey I made that choice in real life as well.  (I drive an Integra
Type-R, it's *GREAT* for throwing around on the solo track, but
Vette's, RamAir's, and Stage 3 mustangs still take me in a straight
line...  Well, okay, the Vette's take take me in the corners too. :)
