GPL: best CPU choice?

Hi fellow racers,

sadly my old main board died last Saturday night while racing online in
Rouen. The upside of this is that I have to get a new machine and am
now looking for some system similar to the following specs:

128 MB RAM (100MHz FSB)
Diamond Viper V330 (already have)
Voodoo I (already have, I'm fine with 640x480, thanks ;-)
SBLive or other pci-based sound card

So, what CPU would you recommend for use with GPL?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

Uwe

Uwe, max out on the CPU and you can't go wrong.  And, like or
not, it needs to be an Intel.   Personally I run a couple of
Celery 300A's at 450 and I seriously doubt the extreme amount of
extra bucks for the 512kb cache is anywhere near cost-effective
for GPL.  With the V1 you should cook well at your vid spec.  And
yeah, I have an SB Live Value and it sure seems that if nothing
else the PCI bus unloads the system somewhat in the sound card
department... prepare for a grimace, becuz here comes the pun --
you seem to be on the right track.

Rgds and GD&R,
Mark R.

No, I couldn't, sorry. ;-) After having got to know VROC I could not
possibly live without driving an online race or two, so I got myself a
Celeron 400 based system which is now ticking away at 450 (will try
500 next week after 7 days of 24/7 Linux-operation to see if it's
stable), and folks, this thing rocks in gpl. Racing online I get steady
36 fps, and with 19 AI I get about 15-20 on the grid, maxing out usually
before the first turn. Very nice system.

Thanks for all your suggestions,

Uwe
