GPL Bug...

by scorpi » Mon, 07 Sep 1998 04:00:00

This post is meant to expose a bug in the GPL Monza track, derived from the
fact that the rails, in turns 1, 2 and 3, are right next to the track: It is
possible to do these 3 turns flat out, simply by sending the car gently
against the rails, and doing the whole turn supported by them. I have
managed a 1:28:13 with this trick, but I think Papyrus should do something
about it so that it can not happen in the final game, even with damage off.

BTW, my personal best with normal driving is 1:31:89, so you might think I
have found this out of desperation. If you do, then know this:

YOU`RE RIGHT!!! :)

But, even being slow, I still think realism is more important. Please,
Papyrus, fix it!

This is not a bug.

The Monza circuit that you are using is now zonks old and has been a
developmental mule for Papyrus. What you have experienced is the "no
damage" effect, which was not developed at the time that this "demo" was
being used.

GPL Bug...

Not really a bug, but . . . has anybody besides me actually *tried*
jumping the rail in GPL to do some off-road driving?  Get up some
speed, go into a slide, get the car to start rolling/tumbling, and
then -- VIOLA! -- you're suddenly on the other side of the fence.  You
can drive around and check things out from a *different* angle -- it's
kind of amusing.  Things get VERY surreal when you stray from the
designated course -- the bottom drops out and you're flying . . . the
trees and people look like something from a Salvadore Dali painting .
. and ultimately the game crashes -- whatta hoot! <G>

-- John Bodin <as always, straying from the beaten path . . .>
