F1RS Is The Best!!

Well, I played the demo for weeks......then my wife came through and ordered
the real thing for Christmas (I'm one of the few lucky ones in the States!).
All I can say is that this is one Fantastic sim. I've played GP since it
came out, and GP2 was wonderful in it's day, but F1RS has replaced GP2 on my
computer. I have not been so amazed at the looks and feel of a game since I
played GLQuake the first time!! I guess I'm lucky, I had NO problems
installing, No problems with anything! Runs great, but I did apply the 1.05
patch, and the Driver X patch. Now if we only had a paintkit.....!!! Ubisoft
has made their mark on F1 sims, and it's a damn good one!

It's a pretty good simulation but a damn bad game.
The user interface sucks like hell!

OH come on. Especially when hotlapping and trying setups, the menu system
gets tiresome because EVERY time you want to change say ONE degree of wing,
you get the menu, go to the garage, change the wing, exit garage, choose GO,
load the track, get into the car and do the lap. It's cumbersome.

And when loading a setup, goto garage, choose load, go to setups, toggle the
track (Fun if it's Suzuka...), load, get out of the garage, GO, load track
and you're off again.

It's got to be easier than that. I'd say: Track chosen means THOSE setups
only, unless you are mad and try Monaco setup on Monza... :-)

But I love F1RS. I love how my car scrapes over the ground when flying over
a curb too much. Very realistic.

"On 5 August 1944 in the vicinity of St. Sever Calvados, France, witnessed a
German Mark V Panther tank knock out three M4 and three M5 tanks during and
after being hit by at least fif*** rounds of 75mm APC from a distance of
approximately 700 yards. All of these shells had ricochetted, with the
exception of a six***th round which finally put the Mark V Panther out of
action." Sgt. Thomas P. Welborn, Germany's Panther tank, the quest for

No, Marc.....the modern stuff seems more conventional!
I was thinking of the older French vehicles.....the Citroen DS with its
strange styling cues and its button brake pedal.....the 2CV, etc.

Ok, we were just in a different time frame.  And since I don't know much
about older french cars I will trust your statements.  But come on a
button brake pedal?  Sounds like one of the new thrustmaster wheels.:-)

Yep.....a large "button" that is so sensitive that it takes a LOT of
getting used to for the first few times in the car!

Well said. The menu system is a *** :
- much of the text is too small (partic for those with 14 inch monitors)
- the structure of the menus is often illogical making options hard to
find
- you can only use the mouse
- the "hotspots" to click on are very small
- if you don't do a full install of F1RS the menu system is appallingly
slow

Menu system aside, F1RS is great. A worthy successor to GP2.

For an example of a clear and easy to use menu system see TOCA Touring
Cars - visually clear, quick, intuitive and allows selections to be made
with several input devices (including steering wheel).

I bet that would be a good laugh if you where outside of the car
rrrrrrttttt(tire screech sound effect)   rrrrrttttt(again) rrrrrrttttt.
Well you get what I would laugh about.  It might be a good excuse for
six months worth of visits to the chiropractor if you where inside the
car.
