ICR II - field-destroying crashes eliminated???

by Brad W Trawe » Mon, 18 Sep 1995 04:00:00

I'm getting tired of reading these "Will ICR 2 have this/ will ICR 2
have that" posts, and yet there is one thing that even *I* can't wait
a few months to find out....  namely, will these highly-unrealistic
entire-field-destroying crashes be eliminated??  Example - I'm driving
at a record-setting pace in the IICC2 Detroit event, haven't knocked a
single car out, 20-25 laps remaining.  Two AI cars get together on the
front straight, and by the time things get sorted out, the *entire
field* is sitting in a motionless heap on the front straight, ruining
my race.  I ended up finishing fourth at the event, but had a chance
at at least second had it not been for those stupid AI cars... will these
tremendous heaps of crashed cars be eliminated in Indycar 2?

The AI in IndyCar Racing II is dramatically improved over IndyCar Racing
(and even somewhat improved over NASCAR Racing, especially for road
courses). I think you'll be pleased.

(dripping with sarcasm...)

Does anybody else care about THIS?  If you don't want any wrecks then
lower the number of OPPONENTS!

With respect, I think you misunderstand.  In Indycar Racing if you spin
out and cause damage to your car, often the rest of the field will stop on
the track and progress no further until you get going again.  I believe
the hope is that this will be fixed in ICR2 - was certainly ok in NASCAR.

Actually, folks, Patrick is making a sarcastic joke re: my previous
posts about my lack of interest in a 'save game' feature for ICR II, in
which I said 'if you don't want to run a full race, then run a shorter
race.'  I don't like things that aren't realistic - saving your game in
the middle of a race and coming back to it later, for example.  And esp.
having the entire field knocked out in one fell swoop.  So it's good to
hear that ICR II will be 'vastly improved' in that area....

Ya know...I've never seen one of those yet.  The most cars I've ever seen
(excluding those times when I turn damage off and go backwords around
Michigan <g>), is 5 cars going into turn 1 on the 1st lap of Michigan, which
isn't all that an uncommon occurance.  'Course, that six car pileup I had
in NASCAR yesterday was good for the replay.  <g>
