ICR program crash @ Laguna

I've never seen mention of ICR, itself, crashing while reading this
group.  I've only had the game for about three weeks, so I'm not sure if
this is to be expected.
I was running a short (<20%) race at Laguna.  I had just turned into the
right hand portion of the corkscrew when all of the sudden the screen
flickered and I was slammed against the *inside* wall going backwards at
what must have been 150+ mph.  I came to rest a little further back than
if you would just run straight off at the top of the hill.
I viewed the replay in TV1 view and there's a noticeable "pop" where
you don't see the car change directions.  It is just instantly going
backwards against the wall.  When I tried to view the replay through
in-car, the entire program crashed and through me back to DOS with some
sort of "crash address" message that scrolled off of the screen.  My
sound card was still humming the last engine note from the replay too.
  I'm running version 1.05 on a 90MHz Pentium w/ 32 MB of RAM.

Any Ideas?

Indycar runs better when you boot without your memory manager. Try a clean boot.

I haven't had the same bug that the gentleman above reports,
but from time to time at Laguna Seca my screen freezes while
the action carries on...usually the sound of my engine (and others)
followed by a loud crash. The screen suddenly resumes normal
display to show me up against a wall with my tires bouncing down
the track. The incidence of this bug seems to rise in frequency
as I add more AI cars, and is often triggered just as I crest the
rise at the curve on the start/finish straight. It also happens
        elsewhere on the track.

If I react quickly enough and tap a shift key it brings the screen
back into action, but I then sometimes lose the keyboard....

Oh yes, this happens every time I play if I have configured
the game for SoundBlaster (I use a Thunderboard SB clone),
but only occasionally when I setup as different one (can't
remember which one - but it shouldn't work and does).

I use a 486 DLC 40mhz with an Ahead card (non-vlb), and AMI bios.

I've seen this problem several times (as have others who have reported
here).  It manifests itself as if you were instantly transported to a
new location and probably with a new orientation.  I've had it transport
me from the hill leading to the corkscrew out into the grass behind the
grandstand on the front straight.  Others have reported it happening on
other tracks.  Someone even reported that it transported him ahead quite
a ways, giving him an amazing lap time!

In general, the replay file is no good and will crash the program if
viewed.

What you've got happens now and then.  I was surprised that it wasn't
fixed in 1.05, as it was reported quite a while ago.

Yea, a similar situation occured when I was doing Pre-Season Testing at Australia
on my friend's Pentium-66.  I was suddenly thrown into the left wall when I was
going down the main straight.  And after that, the game promptly crashed.  He has
version 1.05 as well but with only 8 megs ram.

Maybe the Pentium architecture is at fault?

No, the same thing happens with 486's too.  I've seen this in pre-season practice,
during races and during modem play.

My machine is a 486dx2 with 16 MB.  I always run IndyCar with a minimal CONFIG.SYS
and AUTOEXEC.BAT.

It never crashed or locked up while I've been playing it.  I bought ICR
about an year ago.  Few oddities have happened, but nothing "fatal".

I had a similar experience couple of days ago during preseason testing
in Laguna.  In turn seven the engine rpms went up very high (around 15
000 - 20 000 judging from the sound) and the car was "teleported" on the
grass.

:   I viewed the replay in TV1 view and there's a noticeable "pop" where

I also viewed the replay, but in my case the incar camera worked.  First
everything looks normal, then twitch and car crashing into wall.  Frame
by frame replay showed something interesting.  Incar camera had one
picture way above the ground, 10-20 meters high and canted sideways 45
degrees.  It looked more like Falcon or Tornado;-)

The car was invisible from outside views (TV1, etc).

It just came into my mind, that I had somewhat similar accident in
Cleveland.  I was racing and hit computer car in turn, resulting a
pretty fast crash.  I checked the replay and the car moved something
like 50 meters during one frame (1/15th of second).  That makes 3000
km/h, no sonic boom;-)

: sound card was still humming the last engine note from the replay too.
:   I'm running version 1.05 on a 90MHz Pentium w/ 32 MB of RAM.

386/25 with 4MB, clean boot without memory managers.

: Any Ideas?

I thought you guys were all kidding about this teleport bug until it happened
to me last night.  I was flying down the back straight at Long Beach, when I
was teleported from in the tunnel down the track to the end of the straight
where I hit the wall at an oblique angle, collecting Mario Andretti, who I
had been chasing for about 5 laps but could catch... I went back to the
replay, which showed an *INCOMPLETE* track, and *NO* cars between my last
known location and the crash.  I didn't hear anything unusual from the sound
before the crash.
