I also wasted my money on a Savage 4 hoping it would work with
GPL.  In fact it doesn't work with the OpenGL patch you can only
run in software mode.

I know have a Voodoo 2 which works brilliantly with GPL.  You
should be able to find a Voodoo 2 around somewhere so you can
keep the Savage 4 for D3D games, where it works very well for me.

On my system, GPL (1.2) freezes just as it first loads, and the main menu
screen appears.  The mouse pointer won't move.

The solution is to press CTRL-ALT-DEL *once* and wait for the 'Close
program' dialogue box to appear.  When it does, click CANCEL (or press ESC)
so that you don't close anything.  For some reason, after doing this, GPL
'un-freezes' itself!

For the record, my system is an AMD K6/2-400, Tyan S1598 motherboard,
Creative TNT2Ultra and SBLive! 1024, with 128MB RAM.

Oh, and I use the OpenGL patch (obviously) but even with lots of the
details switched off, and the mirrors re-drawing every 4th/8th frame, the
game still seems slow.  In fact, it's slower than my mate's 350MHz K6/2
machine, which only has a Voodoo 1 card!!!

I really need a *good* Glide wrapper... or would a faster CPU help?  Anyone
know?
