F1RS and videocards

So after much lurking here, I go to the store to buy F1RS.  On the way
to the checkout, I notice the under the "minimum specs" it says that I
must have Direct 3D compatible card.

This is the dumbest question ever, but, is my Millennium 4meg card
"Direct 3D compatible" or must I go and purchase a 3dfx card like the
diamond monster 3D II (or sim)?

Thanks in advance.

Your Millenium is NOT Direct3D compatible.  The MilleniumII does
support Direct3D, but its very poor at it.

You dont have to get a 3Dfx card, you can get other 3D cards by Riva
or Stealth which support Direct3D well, but with 3Dfx you can run F1RS
in native mode (written specifically to take full advantage of the
3Dfx card).

If you are going to get a 3D card, I would highly recommend getting a
3Dfx card.  You just have to choose between a Voodoo or Voodoo2.

If your computer is NOT a PentiumII or Pentium Pro, and you are not
planning to upgrade you PC for a while, then get a Voodoo (cheaper).
otherwise get a Voodoo2.

Hope this helps.

Marc.

THats BS ! If i buy a voodoo 2 for p200 it will still be better than voodoo
1. Voodoo 2 will scale up if i upgrade to pentium II at a later date. duh

Well duh yourself.

Since price was obviously a concern for him,  I stated:

" If your computer is NOT a PentiumII or Pentium Pro, and you are not
planning to upgrade you PC for a while, then get a Voodoo (cheaper).

You see, if he isn't going to upgrade to a PII or PPro for a while and
wants to save some money, a Voodoo1 is a good choice.

Stephen,

The Millenium 2 does do D3d\D, but very badly.
Buy an add-on card like a Diamond Monster 3D, you can pick them up for
around 300 with retail games, or around 270 OEM. If you can afford it,
a Voodoo 2 would be nice, but, and its a big BUT, the Creative Labs 3D
blaster 2 (Voodoo2) is about $699 (seen at PC98 on Friday). So right
now, a standard Voodoo Graphics will serve you just fine.

Oh, if you can stretch the budget a bit, buy a Canopus Pure 3D and get
the TV out as well :)

Also, the box says D3D compatible, new boxes will say _4MB_ D3D
compatible....
