Gpl laptop problem

I've tried to run gpl in my laptop but it doesnt run at normal speed.First
it was too slow.Then i found utility called powermonger and it became too
fast.Then cpuspeedfix but no help.
Any ideas,thanks!
system:Compaq presario ,amd sempron3000, atixpress200M ,512 memory

I'm just guessing here - but does your laptop have any kind of inbuilt CPU
speed throttling enabled, similar to Intel's speedstep technology? (think
AMD's is called cool&quiet or something?).  If so, may be worth disabling
that to see if it makes any difference  - maybe combined with your other
utilities?

This problem comes up frequently with GPL.  There are several solutions
at the GPL FAQ at http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=105748 and
as Dave said, it has to do with disabling the power saving features.
Sometimes it's not that easy to do as you'll see in the FAQ.
