GPL difficulty levels

Yo All!

i'm not a very good driver and i play with keyboard and even NOVICE level is
too difficult. Still i want to race against AI. Can I change difficulty levels
in some *.ini file? I'd like to race full distance races, but against slower
opponents. What parameters I have to change?

check out the AI-tweaker, available at the pits
(http://www.theuspits.com/owheel/gpl/files/AITw103.zip, requires
VBRUN300.DLL).
but even with brake and acceleration aids, you will still have BIG
problems driving with keyboard. I'd say the very minimum is an analog
joystick for GPL, although I prefer a wheel w/ pedals :-)

Hi, Walter --

There's a utility at the Pits http://www.theuspits.com/ that will let you
adjust the AI.

But as a practical matter, you're never going to be competitive -- even with
dumb AI -- with keyboard control.  The physics of GPL are simply too
complex.  Any chance you can get yourself a wheel?  Or even a joystick?

Good luck

Kurt

In the gpl_ai.ini file there is a huge list of parameters you can
change.

The easiest one to frig is the gearchange hiatus (can't remember the
exact name, but it has "hiatus" in it somewhere).  This sets the amount
of time that the cars go into neutral when changing gear, and if you
increase it to a couple of seconds it has a pretty serious effect on
their laptimes!

That reminds me, how's the status on Jack Rambo's GPal?
It seems a beta release would be nice to say the least.
Or is he now waiting for GPL1.2? ;-)

Yes, I know that I'm not very competitive with 1:34 lap times in Monza :))))
But I promised myself, that I'll buy a FF wheel, when Nascar 3 comes out. Few
months ago, I borrowed some cheap Thrustmaster wheel from my friend and it
wasn't any pleasure to drive at all. I think, I'll buy Microsoft FF, any
comments?

Walter, if you can do 1:34 at Monza using a keyboard, I tip my hat to you!

I use the MSFF wheel and love it.  But choice of wheel is much debated in
these parts!  You'll probably hear from others with their endor***ts, too.

Regards,

Kurt

Yes. Don't buy it. Buy the Logitec wheel. Search on www.deja.com for
some reviews of both wheels.

Disagree. The MS FF feels a bit mechanic at first, but once you get used to
how it feels and the wheel is used a bit, it's ok. I find it to be pleasant
and precise. This is an ECCI CDS2R owner speaking ...

I cannot speak for the Logitech, never had one.

I have both wheels, the microsoft and the logitec. The microsoft
wheels does indeed feel mechanic. The logitec feels very smooth. Only
the pedals of the logitec aren't that great (the microsoft pedals are
better but not great either) so I connected CH Pro pedals to the
logitec wheel. Perfect!
