If it's good enough not to for Jean Alesi (see
http://www.racesimcentral.net/), then it's
good enough for me!

He's quoted as saying "I do not do left-foot braking. I use my left
foot to stand on when I step out of the shower."

Yeah, I know if I don't learn I'll probably never better my painful
121.8 GPLRank :-(

Thank goodness, & I thought I was the only one. :-P  One-footed drivers
of the world, unite!

+10.07 here (Monster +285), right foot braking only. I intend to go negative
using this technique... others have done so before.

I got to a -1 GPLRank with right foot braking and a 1:27.93 at Monza!  But
then I switched to LFB and now it's at -30 :)

Thanks,
Alex

I used to be the lowest right foot braker in GPL, doubt I still am, haven't
played in years. But didn't really race F1's when I did play GPL, mostly
F2's and F3's. Have a -40.76 rank

I got down to -43 right foot braking then I switched to left foot thinking
I'd be much quicker but I only gained 7 or 8 seconds. Can't wait till
everybody starts using clutches ;)

p.s.
I read somewhere that Juan Mon was a right foot braker while in CART but
I'm sure he's switched to left for F1.  It only took a little over a week
for my left foot/leg to learn braking so I'm not sure what this guy is
complaining about considering his salary.

But clutches are only useful for standing starts, so won't be much
help for GPLRank :-(

I was refering to the fact that use of a clutch in WSC (or GPL) will require
right foot braking (unless you can match revs).  Also, the gas while braking
technique used in GPL may melt rear brake pads so there may yet be hope for
us right foot brakers.  I was thinking of setting up a new driver in GPL
named Kirk_RFB_House and only doing right foot brake hotlaps with it.  If
all the right foot brakers would do this on GPL Rank we'd have a way to
compare our times.  The guys who did it in real life didn't brake with their
left feet so maybe this explains part of the reason why the times from GPL
and the real times from 1967 are different.   This doesn't mean that it
would have been impossible to left foot brake in those cars but maybe the
drivers simply hadn't figured it out yet as the learning curve would most
likely have been fatal.

A couple of clarifications....  When I say clutch I don't mean button on
wheel.  I'm talking about a third pedal.  Also I do know that clutch use in
GPL is not necessary at all.

All he needs is some lessons from revved and a copy of GPL. Then he'll be a
real F1 driver.

His F1 experience should stand him in good stead for GPL, sure. ;-))

Why would a clutch in WSC require right foot braking? Don't they use
dogboxes? Even privateers use dogboxes! That's like the first thing you
should buy if your serious about racing.

BTW, I can hop feet as I don't drag the gas while braking in a straight
line, I only feed in the gas while going into the corner, so I can use the
clutch while downshifting then quick hop feet for the corner. I tried it in
GPL for a day and was about a second off my PBs at each track doing that,
but also PB's are your very best and I wasn't quite used to it yet, so I'd
figure it's about 4 tenths of a second slower a lap at a track that takes
mid 1m to complete.

Thanks,
Alex
