There is only one NASCAR "sim" in my eyes for the PS2, and that is NASCAR
Heat 2: Dirt to Daytona. Covering dirt track, featherlight modifieds, trucks
and Cup cars...it cannot be beat considering how much it offers. I'd go out
on a limb and say it has the best AI for a NASCAR console title, too.
It's too bad there was no PC release. It would've kicked the sheeit out EA's
flop of a title called Thunder 2003 on PC. And it certainly would've given
Papy a run for it's money.

I agree with you on F12K2. Dumped it.
Now I have Pro Race Driver. I haven't really gotten into it, but
I do like the track selection.
Everyone who has tried it has raved about Grand Prix Challenge
(and a bargain at $30 new).

Yep. I especially like the***pit view for the modifieds. Never in my life
have I had so much fun racing a vehicle against AI. :)
BTW, if you decide to rent it, be sure to keep an eye out for AI names in
your series and when you move up. Alas, the best move up in rank...just like
you will.
