memories of auto racing were Hunt, Stewart, Scheckter etc. at Monaco (the
only race ABC showed back then!) or Pearson, Petty and Yarborough at
Daytona (again, very slim pickings in televised racing). The lead in to
the broadcasts filled in some information from the preceding few years,
much as a current F1 broadcast might trace a driver's progress back to the
early '90s. That gave me a taste for the GPL-era Formula One circus, and
also the Superbirds of the early '70s.
Call me a nostalgic fart, but I'm getting a lot more e***d about trading
paint with Petty on a dirt-track in an evil-handling piece of iron than I
am about chasing Jeff gordon's rainbow express (is that a Chevy? Ford?
Soap bar?) around Atlanta, with its glass executive boxes. For the same
reason I finally broke down and bought GPL, and it has erased all interest
I have in current F1 sims.
With the crazy pace of life, I'm looking forward to another step into the
way-back machine.
