N2 Patch Update (MUST READ!)

by Kirn Crom » Thu, 01 May 1997 04:00:00

According to SIERRA, the patch IS to blame for the problems that
people are having with cars lurching to the right.  I spoke with a
Sierra tech support representative today.  Apparently, Sierra
attempted to solve problems that people were having with their
ThrustMasters and the old version of N2.  This was one of the changes
incorporated in the patch.  Those problems were solved with the patch,
but now other people are experiencing a new problem in the sudden
lurch.

A NEW PATCH IS IN THE WORKS NOW.  Testing of the new patch may begin
soon, but it may be TWO WEEKS OR MORE until an updated patch is
available on the Sierra web site.

So, if you doubted the FACT that many people with varying systems are
experiencing the SAME problem, the proof has been offered by Sierra
itself.  It is a problem with the PATCH and NOT people's machines.

No one is doubting what you and others have obviously been experienceing:
1. Your controls work fine with the original version
2. You install the patch
3. Your controls don't work properly anymore

There are machines (such as mine) where this problem is not occuring, so
the patch in and of itself is not at fault.  Instead, it would seem to be
the interaction of the patch with something secondary (whatever that may
be) that's causing the probelms.  Maybe it's just semantics and I'm being
too picky.

No you are dead right. I think if more people were civil instead of
demanding this and that and this is shit etc we would be much better
off. There is know need for it. How would one like to be spoken to in
that manner. I would not for a start and do my damn best to do the
opposite so its not just you that thinks along that line I do as
well..

I stand corrected in my previous statements.

Thank you Papy for giving everyone some light on the lurching subject.
I admit to being incorrect in my assumptions.
The whiners still should learn not to whine and to be civil. I still say
noone like to read pissing commentary continuously...
but thats just me.

I too am having the lurching problem after the patch.  I think I have
tried all the suggestions posted
on this newsgroup.  Please don't take this as whining.  I still race with
the patch and the lurching does seem to happen at the worst times.  So, I
try to save the game as often as I can.  I know that is not very realistic
racing, but it works for me.  I love the game and the patch.  I think
Papyrus has don't an outstanding job.

I would just like to fix this lurching.  If there is anymore suggestions,
I'll give them a try.
Thanks.
