Driving (not racing) sim

I am looking for actual driving sim - as in real cities, real streets,
with choice of cars. I have seen opinions on circuit racing sims here,
but was unable to find recent (as in within 1-2 years) of any sims that
would adderss street driving.

Anybody knows of any?

The only thing I can think of would be midtown madness by microsoft. My
kids always pretend to be driving for real in there...

I think all kids do. My son even waits at the streetlights for it to change.

i enjoy the 'free drive' modes in midtown madness (I & II), midnight
club (I & II), and need for speed: underground II.

NFSU2 is the most fun, i've found. you can just tool around the city,
race/outrun somebody if you want, or otherwise no.

the most realistic would probably be midtown madness. you COULD just
putter around the city and follow all the rules. and you can choose the
time of day, weather, traffic density, pedestrians & pedestrian
density, etc.

one thing that occupied me for hours in midtown madness I was using the
lift bridges to launch my car onto places the programmers never
expected anyone to go (rooftops, etc.) i was pretty bored heh.

The closet you are going to get to this is
simulating a car in Flight Simulator. First get
FS2004, and then expand your system to a 128MB
video card and 1GB of RAM. Next, get USA Roads
from Flight 1 Software (www.flight1.com).
The next problem is downlading a car for
flight simulator that is stable and wont try to fly.
The best I have found is a Mercerdes SL55 you
can download form www.flightsim.com. This is
the  closest you will get to simulating a car in
Flight Simulator.

Yep, Micro Flight has ground vehicles (and I'm busy building some more
for the next release, just a user giving back of course!)

http://www.hangsim.com/mf/

Have fun.

You can download and add extra vehicles in the registered version.

We are a bit short on scenery, but it's starting to get there with
other users helping out; Classic North Italy one is particularly worthy
of note, again you can add to registered version. Quite good for
driving as well as flying.

The cost is less than most add-ons for MS flightsim. Forums are
starting to wake up a bit too at last. About $25 to register the last
time I looked.

A bargain in my view! ;O)

Hope it helps.

BTW. I'm trying to make an off road section for a scenery area I made,
it's very good for model makers is this one. Oh and of course it's a
flight sim! Can handle boats too up to a point (for carrier/oil rig
landings etc.) and also has flying animals included by defauilt
(seagulls etc.) ;O)

Flight Simulator is better, if you are going to be
simulating driving. It has more of the worlds roads,
and many companies, including Flgiht1, FSfreeware
(a controdiction in terms, since noen of the stuff
there is free), and others are coming out with
add ons that will add nearly every road in a given
region. You can get USA Roads from Flight 1,
and FSfreeware has add-ons for Canada,
Australia, Iceland, and parts of Europe (much
similar to USA roads for the USA), for $22 to $28
each.
For downloading a car, I recommend the
Mercedes SL55 that you can download from
Flightsim.com. It is the most stable of any
ground vehicle I have operated in FS2004,
so far. It can handle hilly terriain that no no other
FS2004 ground vehicle can handle.
