GPL online problem

by Ale » Tue, 28 Aug 2001 01:43:35

Hi all,

Sometimes I have a problem when I join the race. When the
race rule screen appears, there's no mouse cursor, escape
does not work either, however GPL seems to be running, at
least timer is running and the screen is updated. The only
way out of this situation I know is to reset computer.

Following attempts to join the same race on the same server
may succeed.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

2 questions:
1. do you have ZoneAlarm(or any other firewall) running?
2. do you have another 'window' open somewhere?

1. I was running with Zone Alarm before, now I an using Tiny
firewall for GPL, problem was happening in exactly the same
way with either of them. In any case I had window pop-up
disabled and besides GPL freezes after it has established
connection.

2. I don't think so, I don't have much staff running in
the background and I've not noticed any popup windows
from what I run. Here is my list:
+ Idle
+ kernel32.dll
+ msgsrv32.exe
+ mprexe.exe
+ mmtask.tsk
= explorer.exe
= systray.exe
= em_exec.exe (logitech mouse driver)
= ccminfo.exe (software that my ISP uses as a dialer etc)

I will try to disable mouse driver and the dialer. Also I
can try to shutdown systray.exe and explorer.exe, but I
guess almost everybody has them running.

Thanks,
Alex

I meant another program window.  I've had instances where I'd accidentally left
Windows Explorer looking at a directory.  When I tried to join a race, it got
to the race screen, but I didn't have a mouse cursor to click the green button.
So, I couldn't enter the race.  I thought you might have done the same thing.
Can you temporarily disable the logitech driver and use the Windows driver?
What's "idle", by the way?  I've never seen that in a tasklist...

If users of win9x would like to see what is actually running underneath
the skin of windows...search out a program called   process viewer 2000.
That will open a few eyeballs.

Actually I am running Windows 95 and using wintop to view processes.
"Idle" is a system process in windows (I suspect it is actually
kind of task scheduler).

I see your point, but I don't think I had anything like that.
I usually prefer to stop everything I don't need.
This seems to be the most promising idea.I've disabled it and
now I am waiting if the problem will reappear or not. It didn't
happen every day before either so I am not sure if it helped or
not yet.
