Hi all, I'd like to hear from anyone who has chosen to alter their mtu and
rwin settings, by editing their registry, as is recommended by the tech
facts page at vroc, and if the improvement justified the changes....I
connect and race fairly regularly now to a variety of servers, and have what
I'd think was a normal amount of discos/difficulties connecting or staying
connected. BUT if I can improve on this situation, it would save some lost
time, which is becoming more and more precious, as I can hardly find enough
time to race now, and staring at spyboy/multiplayer/ screens, or waiting for
my computer to reboot, isn't nearly as much fun as actually racing.... The
only thing keeping me from just going ahead and doing it is the thought of
boinking up my registry, and having to spend my time
reformatting/reinstalling/blahblahblah instead of racing.....So, anyone
tried it? And hows it working? Let me know.....Ed

Another option is to install dialup network 1.3 that has a variable/more
efficient mtu. This would eliminate the need to manually modify packet
size/mtu etc..

You may also want to check out the post here in r.a.s. under the subject
"VROC possible disconnect fix..."  This may also help you improve your
connection.  I don't know if these "tweaks" will work in Win95, so if
anyone tries them in Win95, let us know.

I have enjoyed many races using modified settings.  I used the utility
called PPPBoost from www.c3sys.demon.co.uk. to alter the settings.   I use
the recommended settings shown in the utility interface.  If the race server
shows low pings, I rarely get disco'd, and my net downloads are faster too.

If you are nervous about changing your registry, export a copy to your
desktop before you change anything.   If, after the change, you find
something awry, just import the pre-change registry back and you are
back where you started.
