V5 GP3 fix

For anyone having trouble with frame rates in GP3 on a V5, change the
'anti-aliasing' for option for D3D from 'fastest-performance' to
'single-chip' which gives a 100% frame rate improvement.  The
processor-occupancy goes from 130 down to about 60, seriously.

(btw I've already pre-ordered and paid for GP3,and it's definitely worth
buying)

Sounds like a contradiction to me. Now I don't have a V5 so I'm just
assuming, but wouldn't "fastest-performance" mean the least AA
or nothing at all, while "single-chip" means something like 2xAA and
the other setting then means 4xAA?
And since AA does cost performance, why would going from less/none
to more AA increase the game performance?

Confused,   Blaze

Btw, could you please put up some screenshots at 4xFSAA?

No problem.  P3-650, V5 5500 AGP, running in 1024*768 and 99% of the time
the game runs the full 25 fps.  The game only runs in 16-bit btw but that's
no real problem.  Also that's with FSAA turned off completely.  With FSAA on
2X the game still runs pretty much the full 25 most of the time from the
in-car view, but occasionally slows a bit from the tv views.  4x FSAA is
probably a bit too slow, as with most games.

I know it doesn't make sense, but that's what happens.  Actually
"single-chip", although it's selected in the 'anti-aliasing' section, makes
the card run using just one chip for rendering, so just like it was a Voodoo
4.  Single-chip and Fastest-performance both have no anti-aliasing.
For some reason in GP3 and a few other games, single-chip is faster.  I
think it must be a small driver bug or something like that.  If you're a V5
owner don't worry though, GP3 is still plenty fast enough. :)
I'll see about trying to post some 4x FSAA shots sometime tomorrow if I
remember (i won't post them here, but on my webspace and put links to them
here), it's a bit late here now.

iii run GP3 with full FSAA (4x) enable with noo impact on the performance
...
try too run in 800*600 ... i've updated my driver with the new one (7/21/00)

because i had a lot of problem with the beta realease (stuttering every
second )
and GP3 with FSAA 4x is really great ... couldn't play anymore with FSAA
disable !
