CART/ICR2 Setup Help

by Duk » Sat, 31 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Have just bought a new PC - PIII 550 w SB Live and was wondering of anyone has
a setup in DOS autoexec/config files to get the soundcard working under DOS so
I can run Pappy's old sim. After GPL, I have the urge to race Indy again.
Mail me at rfa.airmail.net or reply here.
Thanks in advance,
Duke

Duke,

Here's what I have in my AUTOEXEC.BAT file to make the SB Live work properly
in DOS with CART:

SET BLASTER=a220 i9 d1 h7 p330 t6
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM
SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS

You may have to fiddle a bit with the first line but don't worry if the INT
and DMA numbers don't match what the CART setup program recognizes. They
don't on mine but that's the only way I could get it to work.

try this, it worked on mine, but it started out as a dos/win 3.11 system so the
real mode drivers were there - may or may not work with yours:

run the setup and select AUTOMATIC SOUND SETUP - that should find your sound
card and get the right settings.....  save it and exit - then when you want to
run IndyCar, restart the 'puter and press F8 to get the menu - choose COMMAND
PROMPT ONLY and go run IndyCar and see if the sound works.....

when I installed Win98, all my dos games lost sound I assume because the Win98
virtual machine uses different settings.... every time I would want to run one,
I would first have to run the sound setup and select my sound card, that would
get me sound until I went back to Windows again and the next time I would have
to do the same.... by accident, I found out that by going to COMMAND PROMPT ONLY
at startup, my DOS sound settings are still good and I don't have to do the
setup every time..... I just have to reboot every time, but while I'm in DOS, I
have sound in everything...

good luck

You know, Sierra/Papy have a few patches that will update it to a Win95/98
compatible version...on one of my PCs, it was the only way to get the sound
to work.  Thing is, you have to follow the instructions EXACTLY.  I've tried
it before and tried using different directories, but it doesn't work...
