I have a PII 266 and run a Monster I currently with GPL. What card
would be the best to go with that would run better than my current
Monster I?

Some here have reported that the Rendition Verite's run faster.  In that case,
a Hercules Thriller 8MB would be called for.  Or just get a Voodoo2, or two of
'em (though I've read reports here that two in SLI mode was *slower*, go
figure).  While I haven't paid much attn to the numbers, I doubt if either
will give you more than 10's of percent better performance.  So I personally
wouldn't upgrade just for this.  BTW, I too have a V1, but in a lowly
200 oc/225 MMX.  My next upgrade is to at least a Celeron 300A.

Simple, Hercules Thriller 3D. I have a PII 300 + 64MbRAM + Voodoo1. I was
running it in 640x480, all detail on, middors on cars+track only. This gave
me between 27-36 fps in training, 24-26 fps with 5 other cars, 10-25 fps
with all 19 cars. Then I installed the Herculaes Thriller 3D (8Mb) and am
running it in 800x600 with absulutelly everyting on as well as antialiasing
(looks absolutelly stunning!!!) and get 36fps constantly in training. With
all the cars on I get about 22fps while at the grid, when ythe cars start
moving I get about 26 fps and it clims to 30-36 as soon as you get past the
1st corner or so. Sometimes the framerate might drop to about 27fps with
something severe hapenning up ahead but it is very rare. I'd say I got at
lest 50% framereate boost just thanks to the card :-)

Hope this helps,

Yes, the Rendition cards will do a great job but not much else is written
for them. With your CPU you'll get a similar jump in performance with a
Voodoo 2. If you have an early 266, you will be able to overclock it which
will also help. SLIing will not help much until you're running at 350Mhz
plus.
