GPL - hardware question

by Thomas A. Leitge » Thu, 13 May 1999 04:00:00

I just got a PIII with 450 MHz, 64 MB RAM - and (unluckiyl) a 16 MB ATI
Rage 128 ...

Any chance to use this to drive GPL - or shall I forget upon it unless I
buy one of the supported graphic cards?

ok being that not everyone has 100 bucks to throw around... check if your
card supports the OpenGL. If it does it should work fine with your system.
My TNT runs it 1024x800 in mid fps in the demo. all graphics on... 35 fps

If I'm not mistaken the OpenGL works best, if not only, on the TNT cards and
perhaps the TNT2s.  You may be lucky to get it to work on other cards with
full OpenGL ICDs but its a ***shoot.  Not to mention the Riva 128 is a
fairly old card as far as computer tech goes. :)  But nonetheless, try
it...if you don't get satisfactory results about all you can do is upgrade.

Or a thriller 8 meg for $90. Will run GPL at 36 fps with everything on.

From all the post on this subject that I have seen the OpenGL driver
DOES NOT work for any ATI adapter. I would get a cheep Voodoo 2 board
from someone that wants a Voodoo3.

Stumbled over an Creative Labs Voodoo2 3D Blaster - and it works! I am
now at 1024 x 756 at around 35 fps in Monaco! Now the fun starts ...
