Direct3D/DirectX?

Direct3D/DirectX?

Hey video gurus, I need your help ;-)
Just built a new system, added all my sims and here's what's up.  First
noticed all the sims were exceptionally bright, the monitor on max contrast,
min brightness. N4 Dover especially washed out.  So then I loaded N3 and in
1024x768, direct3d, I find no needles in the gauges (very hard to shift, pit
for fuel or watch temps).  Switching to "None" accelerator brought the
needles back but the res is bad (I'm ***ed to hi-res!).  Loaded Nascar
Legends (because they're similar engines) produced the same results, no
needles in direct3d, needles work fine in "None".  So going back and forth
with monitor changes, accelerator changes, res changes I switched N4 to
OpenGL and low and behold, the beauty is back!!!  Awesome color, contrast,
the works!  Very smooth framerate and normal looking view.  Runs fine too,
50-60 fps!  So, my problem is my sims are too bright and no gauge needles
appear in N3 or NL and my question is: have I a corrupt d3d or directx file
somewhere?  Or did something else change?  Any ideas?  All the other sims
work fine on my older (smaller, slower, etc...:-) machine.  Should I look
for d3d or other files to upgrade?  Any suggestions appreciated!

Win98Se
Athlon 1.2 gz

Radeon 64 AGP
DirectX 8.0

If its just "washed out" check your display properties for gamma adjustments
in your video adapter

I had the same problem it is your video drivers. Down load the new bata
drivers and all will be fixed.
My N3 now has needles and NL works as well.
BUT you should know openGL slows down in FPS but D3D workes better
