Here's a suggestion for GPL sounds.

Mike Horton has a collection of sounds
(http://www.racesimcentral.net/) where you can
click on then and listen.  Unfortunately, there is no way to download
them that I know of.  Go check out his "Other Downloads\Sounds section
to have a better Idea of what I'm talking about.

It would be a big help if there was a page to go to with a list of
Engine sounds, Skid sounds ect, ect,.  next to them would be a brief
description, and next to that a link to play them, and next to that a
link to down load them.  This way we can test the each sound out to see
if we like this one or that one better.  Then, when we find the one we
like, we can download them.

The reason why I'm suggesting this is because I was dumb enough to not
back up the sounds I had before using that installer from Mea***er's
sound pack.  Since these sounds are not what I want, I have to go out
and find the one's I was using and re-edit them again.  If I was able to
hear Mea***er's sounds before hand, I wouldn't have downloaded them and
I would still have my original sounds.

Just a suggestion,
mike

Agreed, I won't install any sounds in a sim until I can hear them first.

same story with skid sounds etc of course, but you have to find out what to
call them.

The problem with that idea is that if you play the wav file it doesn't sound
as it will in the game. I have installed a few sounds that sounded great as
wavs but weedy as *** in the game.
But the great way GPL is programmed means that with the carsound patch (or
without it if you don't mind your eagle and lotus sounding the same etc) you
can just rename any wav file eag.wav lot.wav fer.wav bra.wav brm.wav cov.wav
or mur.wav and just stick it in the sound folder. If you don't have carsound
patch you need different names e.g. ferrari.wav, cosworth.wav
Stay away from installers!!!

You can download them as you would any other "live" file.  The author even
has the download instructions at the top of the page!!!!!!

You're not the only one who made that mistake Michael...

Knowing that problem I started to write down all patches I use for a
game, and put this small paper into the CD-cover. Next time no search.
