Win XP Pro, 1.6GHz P4, 128MB, GeForce2MX-400. GPL patched to 1.2, speed-fix,
opengl fix - and i think that's the lot right here.

GPL worked fine with the onboard sound, recently i installed a SB Live card
and now the sound crackles, really crackles, no matter how low the volume is
the interference that cuts in is deafening. What's up?

Someone in the Vlaamse Racing League had a similar problem recently. He
solved it by installing the Carsound patch, recent Creative drivers instead
of standard windows ones and making sure he doesn't press the throttle when
he goes to the track or takes a reset.

Turning down hardware accelleration on the soundcard didn't help for him,
but has been suggested in similar cases.

Carsound patch? There are many different ones, aren't there? Do you know
where he got this patch?

Didn't work for me either. I removed the card, partly to cure stuttering
(didn't help). The mobo-onboard sound is also quite bad, but it doesn't
totaly freak out like it did with the SB Live. It used to happen when i did
a shift-r. I had to do a second shift-r to get something that had "car-like"
sound. :)

There are a lot of different sounds, no doubt, but only one util that allows
for individual sounds to used for each car, AFAIK. He got it from gpl++,
IIRC.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm no real expert on the matter. I just
recalled someone having a similar problem on a similar system.

Right click volume icon on the task bar, click Open Volume Controls, then
put all the sliders at 3/4 volume. Then adjust volume to your liking with
the speakers volume control knob. Hope this helps as it did for me.

Someone said somewhere (sorry, I've not had enough coffee yet) that
adjusting the sound quality in the APP.INI you'll find in the GPL
directory, could solve the problem. (Try, 2,1 or 0)
