Hello
Has anyone been able to run the gpl demo on a cyrix based computer yet?
Please dont tell me that this demo much like the piece o ***n2 demo
is worthless on a cyrix.
Please help a big fan of F1, and a burned fan of Papyrus

If the Cyrix processor is similar to a Pentium but *without* the full
floating-point instruction set (which may be the case), then you are
probably out of luck for running any modern auto racing or flight
simulation. These CPUs were developed for the purpose of building low-cost
home and business systems. Business software rarely needs floating point
performance, so they can get away with software emulation of FP operations.
However, realtime simulations with accurate modeling require the speed of
the native FP instruction set. Don't blame the s/w developers -- blame the
demand of the sim player market!

I am running the GPL Demo on a Cyrix PR233MX. Have a
3DFX card. It runs fine. I think you have to have the
"MX" version of the Cyrix. I may get time this weekend
to swap my old Cyrix P200+ back in to test this theory.
If I do I will let the Newsgroup know the results.
PR233MX's are shown on www.pricewatch.com for $86
yesterday (Thursday)...pretty cheap, and a pretty fast
chip for general computing.
Hope this helps,

feel free to email questions.
Programs that are pentium based will not work on cyrix chips because they
are basically 486 chips at higher speeds. Sometimes even overclocked by the
cyrix company (bought by IBM now). The only possible way it'll work if
you'll get drivers that fool the system to say the processor is a 6x86
whatever speed you have.
