How to setup for hockenheim in GP2

by Fac. Bouwkund » Sat, 22 Mar 1997 04:00:00

I'm quite new to GP2 and i have troubles with the setup for hockenheim...

I'm driving in Amateur level and i can only keep up with my
computer-opponents in th straight lines when I'm driving with rear wing on
level 0. But when I choose this setup, I just haven't got enough grip to go
through the two chicanes at a reasonable speed. What am I doing wrong..???
Please help !!!

Patrick,

I've had about the same problem at Monza (a few miles from Milano, my
hometown).  The thing is, and all the real teams do this, you have to
gradually work down from a starting point of, say, 5 turns rear wing.
Even 5 turns is a good rear wing setting for Monza and perhaps
Hockenheim, but you also need a front wing somewhat doubling the
rear's.  It will not oversteer unless you have really tweaked the
springs/dampers.  It will, in fact, give you plenty of warning if the
tail is going to step out.  Another thing: set up top gear to be pretty
long, so that you have plenty of slipstreaming power when the time
comes.  Brake balance should be around 60% front, 40% rear.  Just be
careful when braking, or have the computer assist you.

Good luck!

Yeah, well Hock is a fast track.... 0 rear wing setting will get you max
speed down the long straights. experiment with front wing 6/7, plus
other things like just getting the red led at max speed (208mph+) adjust
gears....and alter the ride hight so the board is just flashing at
speed.  I find the 3rd. chicane the answer to a good lap time, get right
and a good time, clip the inner rumble strip and its good night ;-)

Best of luck
